I like to invest. I like to invest a lot. I have a huge share of my portfolio in equities, both foreign and domestic, running the gamut from index funds to dividend stocks to speculative penny stocks. The best kinds of places that I like to invest that kind of money is in real estate owned properties for sale. When a real estate firm has bought a property on their own, I know they have to sell higher than they bought it for in order to make a profit. Some investors shy away from these sales because they feel like dealing with a middleman means getting ripped off. I do not share that sentiment. I like the comfort and peace of knowing that the real estate firm has done a lot of the leg work for me. The property has been inspected, certified, it is compliant with local regulations. Did You Know That Ignorance of the Law is No Excuse?

Boy what our courts would look like if ignorance of the law was a suitable excuse for committing a crime. It would go something like this; “Sorry officer, I didn’t realize I couldn’t borrow this persons car until tomorrow morning and then bring it back”, or perhaps “I didn’t know it was illegal to smoke weed in the park, I see a lot of people smoking here!”. There’s a good reason that ignorance is not a defense, say some Orange County criminal lawyer professionals. Our courts would be the laughing stock of the world, and crime would surge to ridiculous levels. Most of what is legal and illegal is just plain old common sense. While I know we don’t all have excellent common sense, we can’t use that as a defense if we’ve done something wrong. It just would not be right. We know what is right and wrong, even if we didn’t read it in some law journal.

My Trip to the Windy City

In August I got to take a trip to Chicago to visit my best friend. She moved there about five years ago. I arrived on a Friday night and we went out for drinks and some pizza. We sat down at our table and found out that Lanny Forrester was eating next to us. He is a friend of my sister’s and I met him a while back at a birthday party. What a small world! We talked for a little bit and then it was time to go. On Saturday we went to the zoo and that was a lot of fun. Sunday we visited the downtown area and I loved seeing everything the windy city had to offer. Monday morning I had to fly home but it was a very nice visit. I can’t wait to tell my sister about running into her friend. She will think that is great.

Why HVAC Training Isn’t Worth It

I thought it would be a good idea to take HVAC training, but I was wrong. I learned almost nothing related to my job. All I do here in Mississippi is fix A/C units. I have not once been called to restore a refrigeration system, install air ducts or even fix a heater. All my work has been around air conditioners. There is no companies in my part of the state that want to fire HVAC pros like myself for the full trainign they received. If you can fix air conditioners then that is good enough. The pay isn’t as good as I thought it would be either. The apartment complex I work for barely pays me above $30,000. The cost of living here is cheap but it is sometime hard to pay all the bills and still aford my student loans. I wish I would have just taken an air conditioning course at college. It would have been much cheaper than what I ended up doing.
